ASHRAE Level II Audits for Eight Different Buildings
The City of Aspen has set a goal of net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emission by 2050, to be compliant with the Building IQ ordinance, and to be in compliance with Colorado’s Building Performance Standards. In addition to reducing GHG emissions, the Building IQ also includes tracking and reporting of water usage to better identify opportunities for potential efficiencies to implement. Iconergy was contracted to help achieve this goal by performing energy benchmarking and ASHRAE Level II energy audits.
To better anticipate the level of effort that it would take to optimize a building’s performance and lower its energy use intensity (EUI), a sample of eight different building types were selected to identify energy saving opportunities and estimate the associated true cost and savings numbers. The buildings audited represent a variety of building types that are common in the City and include multi-family, mixed-use retail, and a community center which are either city-or privately-owned facilities.
After performing the ASHRAE Level II audits, savings estimates were calculated by the Iconergy team by using either whole building energy modeling or spreadsheet calculations that were tailored to the characteristics of each building and historical energy and water use.
To surmise the recommended energy conversation measures, an Iconergy-led presentation was given to the City’s committee to present the findings and to answer outlying questions about the analysis and results. Our final report provided accurate data to the City to aid them in developing water, energy, waste, and GHG reductions.
