YMCA Energy Performance Contract

Energy performance contracting (EPC) services were completed for the Cheyenne Family YMCA facility. This was the first private EPC project in the State of Wyoming. Our team upgraded the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system, controls, LED lighting retrofits and optimization as well as weatherization and water efficiency – actualizing a 30% savings guarantee.

The HVAC upgrades included a rooftop unit replacement to a new high-efficiency unit for the wellness center on the first floor. The previous unit was nearing its pre-determined end of useful life and had several failed mechanical components. On the second floor of this facility is the Early Childhood Education area (ECE). Our team recommended that the existing split system air conditioning unit be removed and replaced with a new high-efficiency unit to restore cooling and provide electrical energy savings.

This energy performance contract included several energy conservation measures (ECMs) that improved the natatorium’s energy and water efficiency. We recommended a water re-capture system, a hard cover for the spa during off hours, and a surfactant pool cover during off hours to reduce water loss. The recapture system would allow for water to be reused, and the covers were to prevent evaporation. This reduction of water loss not only reduced the water utility bill but also lowered the natural gas utility bill.

Another aspect of this energy performance contract project was to provide weatherization upgrades that included ensuring weather-stripping and door sweeps are installed or replaced on all leaky doors to minimize infiltration. This ECM provided natural gas energy savings since it minimized excessive infiltration of outside air.

Our energy performance contract for this project was successful in achieving 100% of guaranteed savings.
