Doug Hargrave
Doug’s energy management and sustainability work began in the mid-1990s as a junior engineer working with pioneers of the industry. Through his work on public policy, government and utility programs, as well as individual projects, Doug has experience in all facets of energy management and sustainability as it applies to the commercial and industrial sectors. At Iconergy, Doug shapes programs and projects by developing and refining our clients’ goals, and then guiding Iconergy’s overall performance in meeting or exceeding those goals. In addition, Doug directly manages select programs and projects, including government (federal, state, local) and utility energy efficiency programs, diversified energy management programs and projects for large commercial and industrial entities, and performance contracts. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis as well as a variety of industry certifications in energy management, sustainability, and process efficiency.
Scott Newell
Scott is the former Chief Executive Officer of a national facility planning firm and Executive Director of the Office of Capital Construction at the Colorado Department of Education. Between these two roles, Scott has over 18 years of experience delivering facility plans to clients across the nation. Scott specializes in developing facility condition and suitability assessments, master plans, program plans, and funding plans for various public agencies. He has managed many large-scale school construction projects as an Owner’s Representative and developed industry best practices for budgeting, procurement, and stakeholder communication. Additionally, Scott has facilitated dozens of communities, board, budget, and procurement meetings with clients across the country. Â
At Iconergy, Scott’s role is to lead our consulting team’s strategic efforts, manage and develop projects, and provide overall direction on how to best optimize client’s building portfolio. Scott’s leadership background and technical expertise help drive our actionable solutions for our clients.Â
Carl Hurst
Carl brings extensive experience in developing and implementing sustainable and efficient operational improvement projects for public and private sector customers. Throughout his career, he and his teams have been responsible for energy efficiency, renewables, and performance contracting projects totaling over $500M. At Iconergy, Carl focuses on business development, primarily through shaping performance contracting, renewables, and design-build projects. Carl has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado. He is a past Co-Chair of the Colorado Energy Services Coalition. Carl’s 30+ years of experience working with customers in the energy industry in Colorado and nationally help to ensure that we exceed our clients’ expectations on every project.

Scott Shulda
Scott brings over 20 years of experience in providing clients a fully integrated approach to development, design, and construction services, advancing project success. With Scott’s design and construction background he also brings extensive experience in risk management, project incentive programs and financial modeling. Scott’s work has mainly focused on energy and sustainable projects including energy performance contracting, turnkey design-build projects, renewable energy, and other projects that are not funded in traditional ways. Throughout his career Scott’s main emphasis has been to work on technically challenging projects with performance-based outcomes that drive improved organizational energy and operational efficiencies. Scott has a proven track record of satisfied customers, including state and local government, K-12, Higher Education, and private commercial clients. Scott holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of Kansas, a Master of Business Administration from Baker University, and is a Certified Energy Manager.
