Overview
The Town of Erie pursued an Energy Performance Contract to modernize infrastructure, reduce operational costs, and integrate renewable energy across its municipal facilities. The community faced challenges with aging systems, inconsistent controls, and high utility consumption. Our team was selected to deliver upgrades across five major buildings including the Police & Courts building, Community Center, Water Treatment Facility, North Water Reclamation Facility, and the L.A.W. Service Center. These improvements support long-term sustainability, asset reliability, and cost predictability.
Solutions
We delivered a comprehensive suite of improvements across the Town of Erie’s municipal facilities. These included LED lighting retrofits, modernization of BAS controls across four buildings, installation of a 70 kW solar PV array, improvements to pool pump efficiency via VFDs, installation of a TDS sensor, low-flow water fixtures, a lab hood timer, and a new on-site hypochlorite generation system. All improvements were executed under the Colorado Energy Office Performance Contracting Program, including commissioning, documentation, and integration with town operations.
Results
The Town now benefits from enhanced energy efficiency, modernized controls, and greater operational visibility. Projected annual cost savings exceed $80,000, with energy savings totaling more than 2,700 MMBtu. Additional benefits include reduced maintenance needs, safer chemical handling at the pool, improved indoor air quality, and more efficient water usage. Solar production provides long-term REC revenues and reduces reliance on grid energy.
